Eleven major rivers in southern China are heavily flooded in an emergency rarely seen in years after 10 days of torrential rain, threatening areas along the Yangtze River, Minjiang River and Xiangjiang River, the Beijing Times reported. Northern China, entering flood season, also foresees major flooding. "Especially along medium-sized and smaller rivers, flood prevention standards are lower, and as soon as a major flood happens there's an extreme likelihood of danger," a senior disaster prevention official said. |
