Xiang Huaizhu, former deputy director of the economic crime investigation bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, was sentenced Friday to 12 years in jail plus a fine of RMB1m in a Beijing court. The former senior police chief was found guilty for taking graft worth more than RMB2m and of the amount over RMB1m in bribes from convicted Huang Guangyu, once China's richest man. Xiang's case also repeats other corrupt officials' experiences for wives' involvement. His wife Li Shanjuan was sentenced to 1 year and 7 months in prison for working in collusion to take more than RMB170,000 in bribes. |
