Shanghai to stop growth first

Shanghai will be the first city in China to see zero population growth, in 2015, according to a report Wednesday issued by the China Academy of Sciences. Beijing and Tianjin both will be second, in 2018. The last province to see population stabilization will be Guizhou, in 2029. The report also says China should achieve zero energy consumption growth in 2040 and zero environmental degradation growth in 2050.

中国科学院28日发布的一份报告称，上海将成为中国首先实现人口"零增长"的城市，时间是2015年。北京和天津并列第2位，都将于2018年实现人口"零增长"。贵州将在2029年成为最后一个人口"零增长"的省份。报告还指出，中国应该在2040年实现能源消耗速率的"零增长"，在2050年实现生态环境退化速率的"零增长"。
