The 'Fight For this Love' singer spent time with her close pal and mum Joan Callaghan - who lived with the Girls Aloud beauty and her estranged husband Ashley Cole before the couple separated in February - at the Bacardi VIP after show party following the Black Eyed Peas concert at London's O2 Arena.
A source said: "After posing for pictures with fans, Cheryl joined will.i.am who was visibly happier to have her there with him, and even spent some time talking to her mum, who came to watch her perform. Cheryl's mum obviously got on with will.i.am so she seems to approve of the friendship."
Later in the evening Cheryl - who is the opening act on the Black Eyed Peas tour - were seen laughing and joking together and even shared a dance.
The 'Parachute' star eventually left the party at around 2am, with her pal leaving five minutes later.
will.i.am has been very vocal about his support for Cheryl in the wake of her split from Ashley - who was accused of being unfaithful to her with several women - and has pledged to always be there for her.
He said recently: "I just still can't believe Cheryl was ever cheated on. I mean, what has to be going through your head to cheat on Cheryl?
"If she's in New York, I'll get on a flight to see her, if she's in Los Angeles, I'll get on a flight to see her - I'll even come to London. If she needs me she knows I'm there, no excuses."
