NEW YORK – ABC News says the top executive behind "Good Morning America" is leaving.
ABC News President Ben Sherwood said Wednesday that Jim Murphy, senior executive producer of the show, is becoming executive producer of Anderson Cooper's new syndicated talk show. Murphy's top deputy, Tom Cibrowski, will continue as "Good Morning America'"s executive producer.
In five years, Murphy's second-place morning show couldn't crack the dominance of NBC's "Today" show. Sherwood noted that it did win Emmy awards for best morning news show for three years straight.
Sherwood, who was once "Good Morning America" executive producer himself, said he would soon name another leader to be a partner with Cibrowski.
