Changsha: The government of central China’s Hunan province has allocated 6.8 million Yuan ($1 million) for a cultural development fund specifically for ethnic minorities, Zhou Qiang, Governor of the province, said during a press conference on August 10.
The announcement came as China's State Council issued a package of plans in late July to promote the development of ethnic minority culture in the country.
Hunan plans to support cultural programs for ethnic minorities, by providing exhibitions in the public cultural facilities and assisting the artists of ethnic minorities, Zhou said. A provincial museum for ethnic minorities will eventually also be built in Hunan, which has a population of 6.8 million people of ethnic minorities.
The fund will also sponsor provincial or national cultural performances and sporting events for ethnic minorities. |
