Jiang Jiaquan,a 77-year-old who has cancer, displays a body-donation certificate issued by the An'hui Red Cross Association in Chaohu, Central China's An'hui province, on June 26, 2011.
Jiang, who is a senior member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), decided five years ago to donate his body upon death to medical research after watching a news report on the subject. He said the decision was out of sincere thankfulness to society and the CPC. However, his family and neighbors were all against his "radical idea" saying the lack of a traditional funeral would affect the "family grace".
Yet their opinion could not sway Jiang, and this year, as the prostate cancer he has suffered enters its terminal stage, his family has agreed to help him realize his final wish, helping him register as a donor with the An'hui Red Cross Association. [Photo/Asianewsphoto]
