A ship carrying the vessel Jiaolong, China's manned deep-diving submersible, leaves a port in Jiangyin, East China’s Jiangsu province, July 1, 2011. The Jiaolong is to attempt a 5–kilometer-deep dive in the Pacific Ocean in the next 47 days. The 8.2 meter, 22 ton submersible was designed to reach a depth of 7 kilometers and operate in most of the world's oceans, officials said. Jiaolong is considered to be the world's only deep-sea vessel that can theoretically reach those depths. [Photo/Xinhua] Related Story: Submersible dives into ocean elite of nations |
