Farmer awes crowd with voice

Zhang Yueqiao, 28 years old, sings for neighbors in Tangdiyu village of Zaozhuang, East China's Shandong province, Nov 17, 2012. Zhang, a common farmer, won a talent show held by the Life Channel of Shangdong TV station. Zhang made her appearance with a basket of hawthorn fruit and handed them out to audience members and judges, which helped her become known as "hawthorn sister". Zhang was born with congenital diseases and was abandoned by her birth parents. She was brought up by her adoptive parents and fell in love with singing after being influenced by her adoptive father. Zhang wanted to thank her adoptive parents with the sound of her voice. She also wanted to use singing as a platform to help publicize her hometown. [Photo/Asianewsphoto]
