Mahaicun village was once a sparsely populated area, with people living in clay brick bungalows. In 2002, the local government built housing and infrastructures, including schools and hospitals, to accommodate Kazak people who came back to Qinghai after working for years in Xinjiang. Now Mahaicun village is home to more than 130 households, 501 residents, all of them from the Kazak ethnic group, whose annual income reaches about 11,000 yuan ($1,797). [Photo/Xinhua] |
