Jennifer Aniston tops US magazine cover face list
LOS ANGELES -- Actress Jennifer Aniston is the top covergirl in US celebrity magazines, and her ex-husband Brad Pitt is second, according to a study of the six most popular "people" weeklies by Forbes.com.
"Appearing on every title except 'In Touch' at least once during the time period (January-June), her face collectively sold more than five million copies," said the website.
Pitt, 43, took second place among the most published faces in celebrity magazines. Actresses Scarlett Johansson, 22, Angelina Jolie, 32, and 2006 Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon, 31, were third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Former star of TV sitcom "Friends," Anniston, 38, and Pitt got divorced in 2005 after four-and-a-half years of marriage. Pitt struck up a relationship with Jolie with whom he had a girl in 2006.
"She's the classic wronged woman," Star magazine editor Candance Trunzo told Forbes.com of Aniston. "I think that most women can relate to and empathize with someone that was so in love with a man who, in an incredible Hollywood twist, leaves her for his co-star in a film."
Pop star Britney Spears, whose custody battle over her two young sons has propelled her into the tabloids lately, appeared on 18 magazine covers, but sold 600,000 copies below her usual average during the period studied, placing her last among cover subjects in sales, the report said.
