The word "diesel" means a kind of oil, however, when most people mention it now, they are referring to an Italian brand. The founder of the brand, Renzo Rosso, said using the word to name a jeans brand indicates the implications of energetic and lively.

Diesel Black Gold is a high-end line released in 2008. It is more fashion-forward and expensive than the original Diesel line.
