Colin lived two years in Beijing, in 1999 and 2000, and traditional Chinese designs have a lingering appeal. She has lots of vintage Chinese furniture and traditional pottery.

"I am fascinated by yin and yang. I like the idea that it's never always black, and it's never always white," she says.

One of her latest creations is a bracelet that is inspired from this idea. The small crystals are set in the curving bracelet, but the colors are changing from black to white gradually.

"This idea also allows me to think, that as a designer, I should offer people different ways to look at my creations," she says, adding that she tries to create pieces that can be worn more than one way.

This year, the trend is to mix crystals with many different materials, according to Colin. The giant necklace she mentions has embroidered designs on the soft leather, which add an attractiveness that's in sharp contrast with the shining crystals.
