Watchmaker and artist Lu focus on supercars

Shanghai-based porcelain wristwatch brand Zhang Dao announced its cooperation with pioneer artist Lu Hao on Saturday to produce world-class made-in-China timepieces.

The crossover is for Zhang Dao's new series on supercars, mixing traditional cultural elements, but it is not announced yet when to release the new series.

Lu gained his global reputation in the supercar industry when he designed the Ferrari sports-car art collection by applying Ge Ware pottery patterns from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). In 2009, he was invited to be the curator of the China exhibition hall at the Venice Biennale.

Kicking off in 2014, the newcomer Zhang Dao quickly became a maverick artistic brand to watch in China. Zhang Shuyang, its founder and a veteran collector, says he looks for a suitable way to apply typical Chinese cultural elements and make high-end art pieces to catch up with the world's leading timepieces rather than viewing watchmaking as an industry.
