Tips: salt and health
Applying a facial:
To treat yourself to a homemade facial, mix equal parts of salt and olive oil and massage the face and décolleté area with gentle and upward strokes. Leave on for five minutes, then rinse clean with water.
Bee stings: To relieve bee stings, wet the spot immediately and cover with salt.
Cleaning teeth: To maintain a pearly smile, brush your teeth with table salt (sea salt is too coarse and will damage the enamel) as you do with your favorite toothpaste. Rinse, then brush again with water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards. Do this only once every two days.
Dry skin: To remove dead and dry skin, massage the area with salt after bathing. Rinse clean, and apply body lotion as needed to lock the moisture.
Fresh breath: To freshen up breath, mix equal parts of salt and baking soda and use it as a mouth wash.
Mosquito bites: To treat mosquito bites, soak the bite with saltwater to reduce redness and swelling. An alternative method is to apply a pinch of salt onto the bite, let it sit fo a few minutes then rinse with cold water.
Puffy eyes: To reduce puffy eyes, mix one teaspoon of salt in a pint of hot water, soak cotton pads in the solution then apply on puffy areas for a few minutes.
Sore throat: To relieve sore throats, stir a half teaspoon of salt in an eight-ounce glass of warm water and gargle 3 to 4 times a day.
Tired feet: To relax aching feet, soak them in warm water with a handful of salt. Rinse clean in cold water afterwards.
