Black fungus, or wood ear, is rich in iron. It is said to be the "scavenger" of the digestive system as it promotes bowel movements and helps to keep you regular. Pregnant women can benefit from its rich nutritions that promote the fetus' brain growth.

To make, pre-soak daylily in warm water for at least 4 hours, wash in running water and strain. Do the same with black fungus. Stir-fry the two together in a heated wok and season with salt and soya sauce. If you can take the heat, adding a few drops of hot-chili oil is not a bad choice.
