Top 9 most expensive wines in the world

China.org.cn | Updated: 2013-09-03 09:56

Wine-Searcher.com, a famous wine pricing database, has published its latest list of the world's most expensive wines.

The list is based on the average price of a standard bottle (750ml), counting all available vintages, yet not targeting the particular years of a wine. Information comes from a database of 42,910 price lists, totaling at 5,933,867 wine offers (taxes excluded).

Wines produced in France's Burgundy dominate the list. Among the top 50, 37 are Burgundy wines, including six from the Cote de Beaune and 31 from the Cote de Nuits.

Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru, produced in Cote de Nuits, has claimed the title of most expensive wine in the world, with an average price of US$16,193 per bottle and a maximum price of US$24,473. Henri Jayer, the legendary winemaker, completely stopped producing wine after his retirement in 1995. His "works" became even rarer since his death in 2006, with the current average price standing at US$15,000 per bottle.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, from the same place in France, ranks second, followed by Egon Muller-Scharzhof Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from Germany's Mosel area.

The following are the top 9 most expensive wines in the world.
