White meat

Soft elegant white wines such as Chardonnay, that has a refreshing citrus nose and smooth wine body, can pair with tender juicy creamy chicken dishes.

Chicken stew with vegetables goes well with fruity and well-rounded white wine, but not high-acid ones. Pigeon and duck can pair with soft and well-rounded red wines or wines with spice characters and beautiful tannins.

Seafood

Avoid drinking white wines with oaky characters with seafood.

Instead, try mineral white wines such as Riesling and Chablis. Scallops can be paired with soft and easy-to-drink wines from Loire Valley or Alsace.

Shellfish such as lobsters need to match with soft, simpler and well-rounded white wines.

Dessert

Creamy smooth caramel desserts can be paired with stronger white wines like late harvest Alsace.

Chocolate or coffee-flavored desserts go well with natural gentle wines that have developed smoothness to respond to the bitterness from the cocoa.

Fruit salad matches with sweet wines such as Sauternes as its fruity aromas complement the freshness of the fruit well.
