Shanghai’s public health service will move to a family-doctor style of health care within the next five years to ensure every residents gets the most convenient in-house medical assistance, according to vice mayor Shen Xiaoming during a health international forum, Xinhua news reported Wednesday.
Under the scheme, a doctor will be in charge of an average 2,000 to 3,000 local residents, and consultation forms will vary from in-person visits to online medical consultations. Residents will set up an online health record for reference, according to Shen.
“Starting from this year, we will set up some trial sites, and we will promote it to the whole city within five years, and we will also set up related databases of patient health records, payment systems to realize a complete family doctor system in Shanghai,” Shen said. .
