BEIJING - A man jumped onto the tracks of the Line 1 subway in Beijing during the morning rush hour Monday, leaving the metro operation briefly suspended, the subway company said.

The man jumped off the platform at the Tian'anmen East Station, near Tian'anmen Square, at 7:55 a.m. and was slightly injured.

He has been sent to hospital.

The train service immediately came to a stop and resumed operation at 8:11 a.m. when people were rushing their way to work.

Loudspeakers asked passengers to wait patiently and don't panic.

However, some passengers, sweating amid the heat in the jam-packed carriage, blamed the man for jumping during the rush hour.
