Kidnapped Chinese rescued in S Philippines

MANILA - Philippine security forces rescued a kidnapped Chinese Monday evening in southern province of Sulu, local officials said Tuesday morning.

The victim, Xi Li Wu, alias Peter Go, was recovered by police and military following a 10-minute gun battle with his captors in the village of Lambago, Luuk town in the province of Sulu around 8:15 pm Monday, said provincial police commander Senior Superintendent Elmer Escosia.

The victim had been kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf militants, officials said, adding the government security forces side had no casualty while the Abu Sayyaf side had undetermined number of militants wounded.
