FESCO Adecco is working to have a lasting impact on education in China's remote western areas through charity activities that support schools in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region as part of the company's Win4Youth 2012 campaign.
Most recently, the company donated supplies and gifts to schools in the region to mark the coming of Mid-Autumn Festival, an important Chinese holiday, which was observed on Sept 30 this year.
Students from Subashi Primary School in southern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region received gifts brought from Shanghai before the festival.
The management team of FESCO Adecco arrived at the primary school located in Kezilesu Kirgiz autonomous prefecture on Sept 24, and donated stationery and sports equipment worth some 15,420 yuan ($2,462.6) and nearly 42,500 yuan in funding. All of the resources came from auctions or donations from FESCO Adecco employees.
One of the school's two Mandarin-speaking teachers described the hardships that the students face. There are more than 180 students divided into seven classes and six grades. Some of these children are orphans, and all of them have to walk around 10 to 15 kilometers to reach the school. Students have to take classes at different times because there are not enough teachers and schoolhouses.
This initiative is among many of FESCO Adecco's corporate social responsibility activities in recent years.
The management team of the company has been to schools in a number of less-developed areas, including Hongbai Primary School in Sichuan province's Shifang city, which was hit by the great earthquake in 2008, as well as the Madang Orphan Primary School in Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Gansu province and Qinghai Lake boarding school.
"We are willing to shoulder our social responsibility by devoting ourselves to education and the children in poverty-stricken areas," said Ni Ying, managing director of FESCO Adecco.
After the visit to Subashi Primary School, the management team of FESCO Adecco completed a two-day hike at Pamir Plateau. The 2,000-km trip helped to raise $2,000 of fund for the Win4Youth 2012 campaign, a worldwide initiative of Adecco Group to raise money for selected youth development projects.
