Joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) is formed between BMW Group and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings.
The joint venture constructs its first plant in Dadong, Shenyang.

The first locally produced BMW car is released by BMW Brilliance Automotive.

BMW Group Region China is set up as a separate sales region responsible for the Chinese market.

The company announces it will launch the BBA Strategic Production Expansion project.

Ground is broken on the BBA Production Expansion in Tiexi, Shenyang.

BMW Automotive Finance (China) Co Ltd, the first financial service joint venture between a premium auto brand and its Chinese partner, is established.

Local production of the BMW X1 begins in the Tiexi Plant

Opening of the Tiexi Plant

BMW announces it will upgrade engine production to 400,000 units by using the joint venture's funds to build a new engine plant at a new site next to the Tiexi vehicle plant.
