Law firm builds bridges between Bay Area and China

China Daily | Updated: 2014-11-10 09:55

"Our practice is focused and set-up to seamlessly work with Chinese clients investing or operating in the United States," comments managing partner and chair of Nixon Peabody's (NP) Asia-Pacific practice, David Cheng. With teams in both China and the US dedicated to China-related matters, this international law firm builds bridges between the China and US markets everyday.

"By maintaining on-the-ground support in both geographies, we can provide better, more efficient service to our Chinese clients," he continues. With investment from China into the US at record levels, NP's lawyers are actively assisting Chinese clients in all aspects of their businesses, including: new entity formation, real estate, M&A, patent, trademark and copyright protection, dispute resolution, employment, compliance, immigration and taxation.

Today, there is no market more dynamic for China-US investment than the San Francisco Bay Area. NP, with northern California offices in both San Francisco and Silicon Valley, has been very active in this cross-border business. The firm is a founding sponsor of ChinaSF, a public/private initiative devoted to Chinese-San Francisco trade and investment. "The historic, economic, and cultural ties between San Francisco and China will assure a continuation of this investment for many years to come," Cheng says.

NP also has law offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong, strengthened by alliances with two of the region's most accomplished and respected law firms: CWL Partners (in Hong Kong) and Hylands Law Firm (in the mainland). All three firms have a close working relationship, resulting in excellent levels of service for their clients. In total, the alliance firms have over 300 lawyers in seven cities in China, with access to a cross section of talent that provides clients with comprehensive support for any China-related transaction or dispute. NP also maintains a consulting office in Beijing.

Currently, NP has over 600 lawyers in 16 offices around the world. In addition to its northern California and China offices, the firm maintains a presence in major economic hubs around the world, including New York, Boston, Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
