Goal-line tech makes debut in Germany

Goal-line technology will make its debut in Germany for the national Cup final in Berlin on May 30, the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Monday.

Borussia Dortmund's clash with VfL Wolfsburg at Berlin's Olympic Stadium will mark the first time the technology has been used in the land of the world champion.

"This will be an historic game and the first time in a competitive match where the technology has been used here," said DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock.

The top clubs in Germany's first two divisions voted last December in favor of bringing in the technology in time for next season.

Last year's Cup final was won 2-0 by Bayern Munich in extra time against Dortmund, but only after officials failed to see that a header from Borussia defender Mats Hummels had crossed the line during the 90 minutes.

"The technology can only improve things," said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"That was a clear goal - if it had counted, we would have won the final."
