Nosebleeding

A mid-match nosebleed for Nick Kyrgios is nothing new.

For years, he has found himself shoving cotton up a nostril - as he did on Monday during his first-round win at the French Open.

"I just tend to get nosebleeds. I can't control them," says the 20-year-old Australian, who beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last year and Roger Federer in Madrid this month.

At 36, Radek Stepanek became the oldest man to win a match at Roland Garros since 38-year-old Jimmy Connors in 1991, when he beat Croatia's Ivan Dodig.

Foot for thought

France's Alize Cornet was not amused when she was called for a foot fault by a French line judge as she served against Roberta Vinci. When the official marched off Court Philippe Chatrier, Cornet gave him a sarcastic wave.

Underhanded?

France's Virginie Razzano decided to serve underhand in her first-round clash against Paraguay qualifier Veronica Cepede Royg.

The South American won the point but Razzano still went on to win the match to mark her 17th Roland Garros in style.

"I like to surprise my adversary, and sometimes ... I feel it's a good time to do that," said Razzano.
