Family planning boost on way
China will provide better family planning services after the scrapping of the one-child policy, the top leadership decided on Monday.
After long-term efforts, the country's high population growth has been contained, a statement from the leadership said.
Implementing a "two-child" policy and improving family planning management are major steps to promoting the balanced development of the population, the statement said.
This is conducive to optimizing the demographic structure, increasing the labor supply and easing the pressure of an aging society, it added.
The statement also called for improvements in birth registration, coordinated policies covering education, social security and employment, and for public services resources to be distributed appropriately.
The country plans to allow all couples to have a second child after a ruling made by the Communist Party of China at a key meeting in late October.
