Auckland's coolest bar iust got coolerAuckland ice bar - Minus5 - recently got a makeover and has officially re-opened its doors to the public.

Designed and crafted by Canadian ice sculpturing firm, Ice Culture, the interior is cosy and slightly reminiscent of Superman's birth cave on Krypton.

Filled with marvellous ice carvings, the bar even has a statue of David and a life-size couch, which you can sit on and sip your Smirnoff cocktails while admiring the many lit candelabras around.

Guests are recommended to stay inside for no longer than 20 minutes at a time as it is apparently colder than -5 degrees celcius in there.

But fret not, part of the fun of venturing inside is to be suitably covered up in Antartic gear beforehand, and this consists of a thick coat with a furry hood plus two pairs of gloves - the booties are optional.

The new fit-out took a month to build and seven weeks in transit before finally arriving in Auckland ready for construction.
