Astronomical activity

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Galileo's astronomical observation with a telescope, the United Nations has declared 2009 the International Year of Astronomy. To celebrate Children's Day, the China Science and Technology Museum has organized activities and exhibitions on the topic. Visitors can observe sunspot activities and make simple telescopes. A pictorial show introduces the evolution of astronomical telescopes over the past four centuries.

Children's works

This children's paintings exhibition focuses on Children's Day and the one-year anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake. The exhibits have been created by children aged 2-13. The works will later be put up for auction, with the money raised to be donated to the reconstruction of Wenchuan.

Engravings

The Ninth Engravings Exhibition gathers copperplates, lithographs and silk-screen prints created by artists around the country.

The three kinds of engravings are named san ban (three kinds of print) by Chinese artists. They are different from the traditional woodprints in that they have witnessed a boom since China's reforms and opening-up. New techniques and compositions are employed for the art genre.
