Name: Susan Krauss
Age: 37
Nationality: American
Time spent in China: Four months
Why China?
I came to China with my husband and two small children because of my husband's local real estate business, Home Abroad. My husband was always fascinated by China and the great opportunities and unique culture it offered and wanted me to see it for myself!
Occupation?
I work as a social worker at a special needs school and clinic called Care for Children. We provide services for children with learning differences and are the only facility of its kind in Beijing. I also assist my husband at his company, where we provide custom-renovated homes for expats living in Beijing.
Language proficiency?
I am trying to pick up Chinese but have had very little success thus far. I plan to start lessons in the fall. My 4-year-old son knows far more than I do!
Relationship?
I am married to Jason Krauss and we met in New York City seven years ago. It is his adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit that brought us to Beijing and I am very thankful for that.
Food?
I love Chinese food and have tried many different types. Exploring Beijing's cuisines is what I love most about living here.
Money?
I am pleased that I have been able to make my own money here and even save a (small) bit. That is harder to do in the United States where the cost of living in our community was quite high.
Future?
I am very happy to be in Beijing for the foreseeable future with my family. I have made some great friends here and am pleased to be a part of this unique community!
