CCTV will celebrate Children's Day with a gala show Growing up with Our Country, which will be aired on the Children's Channel on June 1 at 8 pm.
The highlights of the show are a story on the reconstruction of schools in Sichuan province following the devastating earthquake two years ago; Shao Shuai, a 12-year-old boy who donated bone marrow for his mother who has leukaemia; and Fu Xinjie, the young ambassador for the Shanghai Expo.
A new children's channel called shaoer.cntv.cn is to be launched on the website of China Network Television. The new online video platform, supported by the 20,000-hour program archive of CCTV's Children's Channel, will become the first of its kind for children under the age of 18.
The platform also encourages children to show their talents through self-uploaded videos and blogs and learning from one another via BBS.
Familiar faces from CCTV's Children's Channel will also participate in the online interaction.
