A horrific explosion on the set of I Have A Date With Spring, in Shanghai, saw Selina Jen of the girl group S.H.E. and actor Yu Haoming suffer extensive burns.
More than 30 percent of Selina's body was burned and her tights melted on her legs. She was rushed to Taiwan for medical care and a five-hour operation soon after the accident on Oct 22.
She required skin grafts from her scalp, while band mate Hebe's mother offered her own skin for grafts. Doctors said it would take two years for Selina to fully recover and she would likely have scars on her legs and lose some mobility.
Haoming suffered third-degree burns, but doctors said after his operation that though his face would not be disfigured his arms might be.
The accident was said to have been due to aged explosives, though an investigation is ongoing.
Selina's April wedding plans to fiance Richard Chang may be affected, but it has been revealed that she has already shot her wedding photos.
Supermodel and Red Cliffs actress Lin Chi-ling appears to be still nursing feelings for her ex, the soap show idol Jerry Yan, despite being engaged to Scott Qiu, the heir to a fortune made from making lavatories.
Lin recently appeared on a variety show in China and was read a love note from her ex, at which point she started crying uncontrollably. Recording had to be stopped while the host comforted the model. Yan has repeatedly said he was responsible for their breakup and called her the love of his life.
The biggest non-story of the week was model Pace Wu's nude scenes from the film Lost In Panic Room. Last week a story leaked out that a man known only as "assistant to the lighting director" had a number of photographs of Wu disporting herself in a naked state with co-star Yuan Chengjie. Supposedly, the "lighting director" had not been paid for his work and was threatening to release naked pictures of Wu that were obtained on the set if he wasn't given 10,000 yuan ($1,497).
Well, according to those who have seen previews, the only bit of flesh to be seen is Yuan's back. A mystified Wu, according to Apple Daily, said she did not get naked at any point during filming, which raises the possibility that the story was a marketing ploy. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity in showbiz, and gossip is the cheapest way of creating a buzz.
Readers beware.
Finally, some good news, though it comes with the same caveat (reader beware). Actress Dee Hsu has reportedly got engaged to businessman Wang Xiaofei, after having secretly dated him for just under three weeks.
The whirlwind romance has been made public through twits to each other on the pair's Sina Weibo accounts. Wang, executive director of the restaurant chain Southbeauty Group, also formally announced on Sina Weibo the separation from his ex, the actress Kitty Zhang, claiming they parted some time ago owing to personality differences but "are still good friends."
