Director Gu Changwei's new film "Life Is a Miracle" ("Zui Ai"), starring Zhang Ziyi and Aaron Kwok as an HIV-infected couple, will open in China on May 10, Sina.com.cn reports.
In the film, set in a Chinese village where the deadly virus is spreading rapidly as a result of illegal blood sales, Qinqin (Zhang) and Deyi (Kwok) are both estranged from their families because of their disease and are eventually brought together by their shared misfortune.
Gu, whose directorial debut "Peacock" ("Kong Que") won a Silver Bear Award at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, said he had invited a number of HIV-positive people to join his new movie and hoped it would raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and discrimination against the disease.
While making the film, Gu and Zhao Liang, another director, completed an HIV/AIDS-themed documentary called "Together" ("Zai Yi Qi").
