Grassroots singer, Wang Xu from the workers-come-rockstars band, "Xuri Yanggang," will join the cast of a film, which starts shooting this March, the Beijing Youth Daily reports.
The film titled, "Xiao Jian De He Chang Tuan" in Chinese, or the glee club of little Jian, depicts the life of a countryside music talent, Xiao Jian.
Singer Wang Xu said in an interview with the paper that he will carry on the spirit of grassroots in the film and such an identity will help him a lot in casting the role.
It is reported that Wang Xu now spends most of his time after performances reading the script.
The news of Wang starring in a film stuns many of their fans who have watched this migrant musical duo rise from a humble tiny dorm to the big shining stage of 2011 CCTV Spring Festival Gala.
The wonderful rendition of the Chinese singer-songwriter, Wang Feng's "In Spring" on the gala has struck a chord with millions of Chinese audiences.
Actually, it is not only their heartfelt sounds that make people resonate, but more of their grassroots identities and their valor to reach for the dreams.
The duo received many invitations for commercial performances after achieving immediate fame. However, tangled in copyright issues with the original singer, Wang Feng, the duo may no longer have a chance to perform the song at a public event and may probably face a nosedive in their careers that just started taking off, as the band has no original works presently.
At the moment, filming may be a way out for these rags-to-riches stars.
