Hong Kong to hold flower show in March
The Hong Kong Flower Show 2011, a flower exhibition held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the city government, will be held at Victoria Park from March 11 to March 20, the organizer told media on Thursday.
The 10-day event has attracted over 200 organizations from 21 countries and regions to showcase exotic flowers, landscape and floral art displays, said LCSD, who itself will present a jumbo exhibit made of about 30,000 Primula, the theme flower of the event, in the display "Symphony of Spring Flowers."
Primula, which blooms between December and March, is often regarded as a herald of spring.
"The beautiful tapestry-like presentation on a music stage invites visitors to immerse themselves in the resplendent colors and enjoy this wonderful spring scene," said the department.
A square shape spectacular sea of flowers composed of more than 15,000 tulips could also be found in the exhibition, adding color and fragrance to the showground.
Other main attractions of the show include a mosaiculture display, "animals in concert," which features a group of lively animals from the forest and fields, a big flower wall made up of colorful flowers promoting the 3rd Hong Kong Games, and an interactive fun photo booths for photo-taking.
It is estimated that the flower show will attract more than 500,000 visitors in the coming ten days, according to the organizer.
