Passing the tradition on

Folk artist Li Caiyun was taught the art of embroidery by her grandmother at an early age. Her Manchu-style embroidery is a crowd-gatherer and never fails to disappoint visitors at the 12th Harbin Folk Art Exhibition. Manchu-style embroidery rose to popularity during the Qing Dynasty in early 14th century, and has been known as the "royal embroidery of China's Qing Dynasty". This magnificent art form may disappear if not for artists who are devoted to pass the tradition on, including Li. [Photo/Xinhua]
