Master painter sees writing on the wall

China Central Academy of Fine Arts professor Wang Qijun, who is acclaimed as one of the 60 most influential painters since New China's founding, exhibited more than 100 paintings at Chengdu Art Gallery in Sichuan province's capital from Nov 24 to 28.

The works included oil and traditional Chinese paintings of such subjects as Beijing's Forbidden City, waterside towns in Wang's home province of Jiangsu, and beautiful Chinese and foreign women. He infuses his oil works with calligraphy and traditional painting. His representative oil work Forbidden City After the Rain sold for 896,000 yuan ($140,428) in 2010.
