New crustacean sensation emerges

China Daily | Updated: 2012-10-11 11:15

The mention of hairy crabs reminds people in Sichuan province's capital Chengdu of those from Jiangsu province's Yangcheng Lake.

But visitors to Yunhe township in Chengdu's Jintang county can find hairy crabs from the local Zishui River that are believed to be as tasty as Yangcheng's.

Zishui offers Chengdu's first large-scale production of top-quality hairy crabs and is expected to yield 50,000 kg this year.

Hairy crabs are a popular delicacy in China and are usually given as gifts in autumn, which is their harvest season.
