China Higher Education Exhibition 2013 kicked off here on Thursday, aiming to promote education cooperation between Cambodia and China and attract more Cambodian students to study in China.
Fourteen well-known universities in China put on display their educational products at the three-day event held at Asia-Euro University in Phnom Penh.
"The exhibition is to promote the quality of Chinese higher education and to attract more Cambodian students to study in China, " said Cao Shihai, deputy secretary general of the China Scholarship Council, which jointly organized the event with the Cambodian side.
"It is also an opportunity for Cambodian students to learn about the Chinese higher education system," he told the audience at the opening ceremony.
Sean Borath, advisor to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, highly spoke of the good cooperation between Cambodia and China in all fields and expressed profound thanks to China for providing scholarship to Cambodian students every year.
"The exhibition was a good chance for Cambodian students to improve knowledge of China's higher education and strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation in the field of education between Cambodia and China," he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue said China provides more than 100 scholarships to Cambodian students to study in various universities in China every year, and the number of scholarships will be increased to 200 from 2015.
In exchange, China sends 60 to 70 students to study in universities in Cambodia.
