New China Green Foundation panel vows to boost efforts
The China Green Foundation has vowed to raise more funds, undertake more ecology-related programs, improve its project management skills and strengthen its international cooperation and communication, while continuing to promote gardening and afforestation in the country.
The pledge was made by Chen Shuxian, president of the new board of directors, at the recently held inaugural meeting of its 7th board of directors in Beijing.
So far, the foundation has implemented about 150 projects in more than 20 provinces, autonomous regions and cities, spending 625 million yuan ($91 million). The projects cover afforestation, biodiversity and wetland protection and desertification prevention and control.
Among its projects is a program to help impoverished areas in western China create forests that are economically viable.
Separately, it also works with online fundraising platforms and corporation at home and abroad.
The total area that the foundation has managed to bring under forest cover so far is more than 133,333 hectares.
