Heather Mills has had to defend her decision to wear a fur coat to a wedding in the 80s.

A picture has surfaced showing the notorious anti-fur campaigner with the garment at the wedding in 1989. Reports suggest the Mink coat was made from up to 40 animals, prompting immediate criticism of Mills, given her current stance on the issue.

"The coat belonged to my mother, who had sadly died just a few days earlier and I wore it as it made me feel close to her," Mills explained on her website. "I am not ashamed I wore it. At the time I was not a vegetarian and I was not an anti-fur campaigner. I was extremely young and not aware of the issues surrounding the fur trade."
