Jilin aims to lift 102 thousand out of poverty this year

Northeast China's Jilin province vows to reduce the number of rural people in poverty by 102 thousand this year. This was announced by the provincial government at a poverty alleviation promotion conference in Tumen city, Jilin province on Oct 11.

The provincial government plans to lift six counties out of poverty by the end of the year, namely Changbai county, Taonan county, Zhenlai county, Tumen county, Longjing county and Helong county. A total of 539 poor villages will be able to get rid of the poverty label by 2018.

According to the plan, the government aims to lift all rural poor and impoverished counties out of poverty and eliminate absolute poverty by 2020 to build a moderately prosperous society.
