Peddlers at Guilin Road Hutong night market -- in Changchun, capital of China's northeastern Jilin province -- were thrilled recently, as they can set up stalls at night to increase incomes, in a move that is being encouraged by the provincial government, according to local reports.
The night market, located in Chaoyang district of Changchun, now gathers a large number of peddlers who are setting up there, attracting hordes of consumers.
As the first downtown pedestrian mall in Changchun, Guilin Road Hutong was remodeled in March this year and its commercial environment has been improved in leaps and bounds.

According to one customer at the night market, the reappearance of the market stall economy reminds her of her childhood and she thought the stalls would be popular with many people.
In addition to the night markets, the market stall economy is also flourishing in the morning markets in Changchun, where residents can buy their food and other daily necessities.
Officials said that encouraging the market stall economy was one of the city's moves to stimulate the broader economy, while it also increases employment and meets the needs of residents.
