Northeast China's Jilin province held a successful conference on Aug 29 to promote foreign commerce and trade in Changchun, capital city of the province, according to local media reports.

Jilin officials said the conference was mainly held to establish an efficient cooperation mechanism for a chamber of commerce alliance.

They said this was to form a platform for companies and stimulate the potential of commerce and trade. Another aim was to provide smooth support and services for enterprises in Jilin, to accelerate their integration into the country's new development patterns and to promote the revitalization and development of the province.

At the conference, Jilin's department of commerce signed an accord -- called the "strategic alliance agreement on foreign economic and trade cooperation of Jilin province" -- with 17 foreign chambers of commerce and 15 provincial chambers of commerce, establishing a liaison and communication mechanism.

Eight representatives from foreign trade associations and representatives from export businesses introduced and promoted their own developments and advantages in international resources at the conference -- and suggested new channels and projects for more cooperation with Jilin's enterprises.

Meanwhile, officials from the commerce departments of Baicheng city, Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, Siping city and the Changchun Xinglong Comprehensive Bonded Zone were also busy.

Officials said they gave briefings on their local economies, industry, foreign trade and economic development status and strategic priorities, as well as their functional layout and services.

In addition, representatives from several Jilin chambers of commerce also introduced themselves and gave accounts of their foreign trade and commercial needs.

During the dialogue section, Jilin officials and four guests from foreign chambers of commerce had in-depth exchanges on the international economic and trade situation during the international novel coronavirus pandemic.

They also discussed economic globalization and the international development direction and provided suggestions for foreign trade and economic cooperation with Jilin province.
