Protected horticulture industry booms in Jilin province in 2020
Jilin province's protected horticulture industry underwent cluster development in 2020, with the total output value of all kinds of horticultural products reaching 145.1 billion yuan ($22.49 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5.9 percent.
According to local media reports, the scale of vegetable farming in the province has reached 3.3 million mu (220,000 hectares) with an output volume of 12.5 million metric tons. The output value reached 24.5 billion yuan in 2020. Overall, the vegetable supply capacity and production efficiency have improved significantly.
At the beginning of 2020, to respond to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the province issued supporting policies to expand vegetable production facilities. A total of 2,069 idle greenhouses resumed production ahead of schedule, and the vegetable farming area reached 85,000 mu, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent. The supporting policies guaranteed a healthy supply of vegetables.
On this basis, Jilin issued subsidies to support the construction of large standardized parks and built 20,000 mu of various types of greenhouses.
By the end of the year, protected horticulture greenhouses covered an area of 692,000 mu.
In 2020, the output of edible fungi in the province reached 3 billion bags weighing a total of 1.29 million tons, and the output value reached 11.1 billion yuan.
Specifically, the output volume of black fungus reached 2.74 billion bags weighing a total of 1.16 million tons. The output value was 10.3 billion yuan, ranking second in the country in terms of planting scale.
Also, ginseng production, processing, sales and brand building in the province reached an advanced level in China. The planting scale of ginseng in Jilin is 1.34 million mu, and the output value exceeded 60 billion yuan.
At present, more than 1,000 categories of ginseng-related products have been developed across five series.
