Huizhou used to be another administrative district in the mountainous southern
Anhui province. The birth place of Hui is one of the three regional philosophies in
China. But ever since Huangshan city took its place in 1987, it has become a pure cultural terminology. Today's Huizhou District is only a part of the ancient Huizhou. But with four national historic spots, two cultural preserves and over 1,000 ancient villages, residencies, ancestral halls and memorial archways, it might just be regarded as a miniature of ancient Huizhou's unique culture and tradition.
