In ancient times, Huangshan Mountain Hot Spring was called “Cinnabar Spring” and was famed as one of three “magical” hot springs, together with Huaqing Pool on Huashan Mountain and Jade Spring in Anning. Hot springs, legendary pines, oddly shaped rock formations, seas of clouds and beautiful winter snows have won the mountain its reputation for “five wonders”.
Huangshan Mountain Hot Spring exists at the foot of towering Huangshan Mountain. The springs were shaped by the extreme cold of the Ice Age followed by the high temperatures of the planet’s Volcanic Era.
The spring is rich in wholesome metasilicic acid, important minerals and other trace elements. It is characterized by good water quality and high outflow. The spring’s warm water temperature averages 44.4 degrees Celsius. The water is neutral with a pH value of 6.6. The water is said to promote blood circulation, activate cells and tissues, expel fatigue and ward off ill health. It is even been said the spring is helpful in the treatment of skin ailments, rheumatism, rheumatoid disease, arthritis and neurosis.
The Intoxicant Hot Spring project covers 240,000 square meters of land and cost 380 million yuan. The pool area has seven themed zones: a spa zone, dynamic zone, beauty care zone, food zone, hot spring square zone, Weicui zone and hut zone. It has more than 60 hot spring pools of more than 50 types and can serve 1,500 guests at a time. In peak seasons, the resort welcomes 5,000 guests a day. In addition, the resort features more than 30 kinds of cultural, relaxation and health care facilities and includes more than 800 guest rooms.
The Intoxicant Hot Spring project is the core of tourism development of the area. The project goal is to create a comprehensive open-air hot spring resort with the newest products, services and facilities in East China. Once the project is completed, it will create a new business market and significantly enhance Huangshan as an international tourism market.
The outdoor hot spring pool area is planned to have many themes, including a celebration of the local wine culture, a flower petal hot spring, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hot spring, open-air swimming pools, water games and a children’s pool. There will be spa facilities featuring slab hot springs, salt baths, sand baths, ice baths and stone therapy, as well as VIP huts and a mountaintop celestial spa.
