Located in Tangchi town in the west of Lujiang county, Chaohu Tangchi Hot Spring Tourism Resort has a number of hot springs. The temperature of the spring water is as high as 63 degrees Celsius. The water is rich in silicon dioxide, sulfide and trace elements, which are good for human health. The water has been said to have a positive effect on more than 50 diseases and is drinkable. The area is favorably called Jiu Tian Fu Di (literally “a blessing place in the world”).
Tangchi town (also known as Dongtangchi) was called “Dongkeng Spring” in ancient times. Tangchi got its name due to hot spring. The spring has a long history. In 164 BC, when Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty established Lujiang State, it was said that there were East Kengquan and West Kengquan. During the reign of Emperor Shenzong in the Song Dynasty, Wang Anshi was demoted to Shuzhou. He bathed in the hot spring and wrote a famous poem: “Cold springs are often mentioned in poems, but this spring is boiling hot regardless of summer or winter.” Dai Mingshi of Tong Cheng School in the Qing Dynasty washed his feet here. In the Three Kingdoms, General Zhou Yu and his wife Xiao Qiao bathed in the hot spring and played musical instruments beside the healing waters.
Tangchi Hot Spring is characterized by stable outflow, stable water temperatures and a stable chemical composition. The water temperature ranges from 37 degrees Celsius to 63 degrees Celsius. The daily water outflow is 5,387 cubic meters. The exploitable duration is 60-121 years. The water contains various kinds of trace elements good for human health. The resort is in a semi-primitive ecological environment. The resort has abundant biological resources and more than 1,000 plant species. The resort features gingko, golden larch, Chinese flowering crabapple and camellia trees. On Fruit Tree Street stands a camellia tree more than 500 years old.
Tangchi Hot Spring is unique in East China. The geothermal field has a large area, high temperature, large daily water outflow of 4,000 tons and a stable chemical composition. It is rich in more than 10 chemical elements beneficial to human health. In the resort, there are many great attractions, including green mountains, serene waters, beautiful lakes, breathtaking waterfalls, exotic flowers, rare trees, and ancient rocks and cliffs. The area was recognized as a “Tangchi Scenic Spot” by the government of Anhui province. The scenic spot covers 60 square kilometers, has 63 peaks, 72 attractions, nine temples and 13 nunneries. In addition, there are also many retired cadre sanitariums and recuperation centers located here.
