Updated: 2013-09-12

40 villages in east China's Anhui province were listed among the second batch of Chinese Traditional Villages, bringing the total number of the province's ancient villages on the list to 65.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance jointly released the second list of Chinese Traditional Villages including Dadi of Susong county, Yangchan of Shexian county and another 38 sites in Anhui province.

'We have been attaching great importance to the protection of historical and cultural towns and villages as well as other old villages. What's more, their historical and cultural heritage have been being explored and promoted,' said an official with the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Anhui.

Last year, the province saw 25 villages recognized as Chinese Traditional Villages.
