With Spring Festival approaching, travel agencies are seeing peak numbers. With registration for outbound tours coming to an end, people are turning to long-distance travel within China. Particularly popular choices are the sites in the famous TV show Where Are We Going Dad?
Outbound tours are really popular this year, but considering visa issues, registration has basically ended, with only a few vacancies for Seoul and HK, Macao and Taiwan. This year, the traditionally popular Thailand trips have been adversely influenced by local unrest. Tourists are more interested in Europe, America and tropical islands. Cruise tours, which have gained popularity in recent years, are becoming a good choice especially for family trips.
As for domestic tours, the hottest choices are cities such as Yunnan, Amoy, Hainan, Beijing, Sichuan and Harbin. Many agencies have also introduced routes containing sites from Where Are We Going Dad? Popular short-distance tours include trips to Jiuhua Mountain and various hot springs.
Most Spring Festival tours take place between January 28 and February 5. Around 70 percent of tourists are going as families. The number of people going on DIY tours is also on the rise.
